The Chehalis Library is a Carnegie building erected in 1910. The building was significantly remodeled after an earthquake in 1949. Chehalis joined the library district in 1970.

The Chehalis Timberland Library building no longer meets the needs of the growing library community. A larger single story facility will be built on the site of the current library and City Hall. Construction will begin this summer 2007 and is expected to be completed by fall 2008.

Beginning July 3, 2007, the library will operate from temporary quarters at 350 N. Market Blvd, across the street from the current library. Entrance to the library portion of the building will be on the Park St. side.

Some of the features of the new library building will be a children's area; a separate area for teens; two comfortable reading areas; a multipurpose room that will seat 49; a small conference room; two small rooms for studying; and a drive-through window. The $3.2 million project is being funded primarily by private donations.

The Chehalis Library has:

  • Books, videotapes, DVDs, CDs, audio cassettes, newspapers and magazines for readers and library users of all ages.

  •
  • Programs and events for children and adults.

  •
  • Computers with access to the Internet, Microsoft Office, and online reference databases.  One-hour computer sessions can be reserved using the online booking system or by calling the library.

  • Free wireless Internet access in the library during regular open hours.

  • A public meeting room that can be reserved for community meetings and programs by calling the library.

Contact the library for information about the local Library Board and the local Friends group.
